"Woop! Woop! Woop!"
— A very happy or scared kepori
Kepori are a raptor-like species covered in feathers, and are vaguely reminiscent of earth’s extinct Troodontidae dinosaurs. Kepori are small in height compared to other species, and may usually seen as weak by other species due to their physiology, but make up in their speed and reflexes. Kepori are typically found in tight social groups, and those who are on their own as spacers are usually seen as a novelty. Kepori are mostly found in the Reki system, centered around their homeworld, Teceti.
Playing as a Kepori
Kepori are a versatile species, balancing nimbleness with a tendency to get quite cold quite quickly. Be sure to pack extra layers for colder climates, though you'll feel right at home on hotter climates. Their movement speed is one of their biggest strengths, currently, running 10% faster than a human. They also additionally have the ability to pounce, providing both an additional mobility option as well as a risky but useful offensive technique. Finally, you are able to hold many small or tiny items in your beak, providing a very useful additional pseudo-hand for easy access to common items such as lights and radios.
You might…
- Feel uncomfortable in the cold and prefer to wear jackets.
- Worry about the ecological impact of your actions.
- Express yourself with body language, and noises seen as charming by others.
Others probably…
- Presume you to be more loyal than other species.
- Treat you like you're fragile and keep you off the front line.
- Ask about your accent.
Origin and Culture
See: The Unified Teceti Federation. Most species don't differ psychologically, and behavior heavily depends on culture; Kepori are no exception.
Names
Kepori names usually consist of 2-3 short syllables, and both their name scheme and language at large are based off of Solresol, a music-based language. Kepori born off of Teceti (especially those with less traditional families) often take names from other cultures and modify them. Their surnames are a combination of their immediate biological parents—this does not include any further relations like grandparents or otherwise. Some examples of traditional Tecetian given names are:
- Meleri
- Huler
- Temiti
- Gahthi
- Nirena
- Minele
- Natari
- Cau-tse
- Setasi
- Dirame
- Naaka
- Sutiraze
(Therefore, a complete Tecetian Kepori's name might be Meleri Huler-Temiti.)
Adventurers
Despite the incredible recovery from the climate catastrophe that plagued Teceti, the planet itself is still very fragile and not as ideal an environment as it once was. Additionally, the colonies of Outer Teceti can only grow to accommodate Kepori and other species so quickly. As a result, Kepori seeking a life among the stars are far from uncommon, from former or even current members of the illustrious Terraformer's Union to simple emigres desiring more to life than awaits them on their myriad birthplaces.
Physiology
Kepori are a species of carbon based theropod-like creatures that stand around 1.37m (~4'6") tall. Their mouths have two rows of teeth within their "protobeak", allowing them to readily eat solid foods. They are shorter than most species (though rather long from tail to protobeak due to their lever stance) and slightly less resilient due to their light, hollow bones. In contrast, they are well-known for their speed and reflexes.
Due to evolving in the hot and arid climate of Teceti, Kepori are generally less comfortable in colder climates. They can, however, handle the standard pressurized atmosphere temperature of 20°C and are quite comfortable where other species may overheat.
Kepori feathers are typically sandy or other more muted, "natural" colors. However, in equatorial regions, red/yellow accents are prevalent, and white/grey plumage is widely present in Kepori from families who lived closer to the poles. Dyed feathers are not uncommon, and are rarely frowned upon. Techniques for doing so have developed fairly far, reducing concerns about the colors running or damage being done to feathers.
Gameplay
- Your normal body temperature is about thirty kelvins higher than a human. Additionally, the upper and lower bounds of temperature before you start taking burn damage is thirty kelvins higher—be careful in colder environments!
- All burn damage from overheating is reduced, but burn damage from freezing is higher.
- You have slightly higher base movement speed.
- You can hold small and tiny items in your mask by clutching it with your beak! Watch to make sure you haven't accidentally auto-equipped items into it, however.
- You can tackle as if you had gloves on by clicking anywhere with throw mode and an empty hand. This can easily kill you or snap your spine in two if you hit something, though, so be careful! Aim and make sure there won't be anything between you and your target.
- Your tackle has more use than just disabling an opponent, you may be able to leap over small chasms if you're lucky! You may also be able to leap to quickly traverse areas without gravity.
